The future of Television - Is the TV Set history?
63
Food for thought.
I want to take a moment out to discuss the changing face of television as we know it.
Recently there have been many changes in the production of Television sets - all of course aimed at improving it as a product. Have you noticed? 3D Films designed to keep people watching in the cinema's or renting from video stores, 3D without glasses 'the television of the future', Internet capable TV, Flat-screen, RGYB - all of it set to improve our visual experience. I can't hep but ask myself if this is some sort of closet conspiracy here. Sure of course we do need our screens to be perfected and in tip top working order; true we all like the most up-to-date equipment - but I can't help but think that Television sets are soon to become defunct.
The reason I think this is becaus e my generation and all those younger have grown up in the 'digital age'. The people who are trying to regulate what we watch on the internet have not grown up in the digital age...if you follow me. That is just the tip of the iceberg as well. There are numerous online sites which allow you to stream television shows directly to your computer. You can get pretty much any film or TV show you like online - in fairness you don't get brand new releases but if you are prepared to wait six months then you can see it and if not then there is always the cinema. I can't help but wonder what use a television set is when I can choose what I want to watch and when I want to watch it. The high tech plasma upgrade would be better spent on my laptops monitor than on another television that I won't use.
What makes me think it might be a conspiracy is that I am a Brit, and as such still have to pay the hundred pounds a year for the commonly despised 'TV License'; without which watching live television shows is illegal. So why this push for improvement just as the television set market is about to die? Keep the television license with it's several million pound a year income afloat and keep the economy stable in the home entertainment sector...The civilian in me hates it but the politician in me can only offer up a grudging respect.
